Football Coaches

Football Coaching Policies

At Mariner Jr Football, our coaches play a vital role in shaping the experience of every athlete. We are committed to providing a safe, positive, and development-focused environment for all participants.

 

 

Coach Requirements

  • All coaches must complete a Washington State background check before any contact with players

  • Attendance at mandatory meetings before and during the season is required

  • Meetings cover:

    • Player safety

    • Rule updates

    • Coaching expectations

    • Program development

Safety is our top priority. Coaches are expected to run safe, age-appropriate drills and avoid mismatches during practice.

 

 

Coaching Standards

All coaches are expected to:

  • Represent Mariner Jr Football in a positive and professional manner at all times

  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the field

  • Serve as positive role models for all athletes

  • Focus on player development, teamwork, and character over winning

Coaches must understand and support the philosophies and goals of both the program and the North Sound Junior Football League.

 

 

Conduct & Accountability

Any coach found in violation of the code of conduct or misrepresenting the program may face disciplinary action, including:

  • Temporary suspension

  • Immediate dismissal

All disciplinary decisions are final.

 

 

Player Development Focus

Coaches are expected to support the total development of each athlete, including:

  • Athletic growth

  • Academic accountability

  • Citizenship and behavior

While competition is part of football, strong emphasis must be placed on:

  • Sportsmanship

  • Attitude

  • Effort

  • Teamwork

Coaches should create an environment that is challenging, supportive, and enjoyable, encouraging athletes to return each season.

 

 

Knowledge & Training

All coaches are responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge in:

  • Proper football techniques (blocking, tackling, etc.)

  • Safe training methods and conditioning

  • Age-appropriate drills and skill development

Coaches must:

  • Attend coaching clinics when available

  • Have a working knowledge of first aid for youth sports

  • Understand and follow all league and program rules

 

 

League Rules & Governance

The following publications govern play within the program:

  • NSJFL Rule Book (takes precedence in daily operations)

  • National Federation of High School (NFHS) Rule Book

Coaches are responsible for knowing and following all applicable rules and policies.

Coaching is a significant responsibility and opportunity. The impact a coach has extends beyond the field and into the lives of the athletes and the community. Our goal is to ensure every player has a safe, positive, and rewarding experience.
